Blogging

They like me, they really like me!

I have been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award three times over the past few months, most recently on Friday, when I was nominated by Kate at Subtlekate. When Jennifer at Two Muffins in an Oven and Michelle at Books and Boston nominated me in the past I really meant to write the acceptance post but life as a working mom and blogger just took over and it didn’t get done. Luckily I had some free time over the weekend and was able to finally do this. Thank you ladies! I really did appreciate the nominations even if I was unforgivably slow in saying it.

The Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you
  2.  Share 7 random things about you
  3.  Share the love with 15 of your favorite bloggers
  4.  Put up the Versatile Blogger Award picture on your blog

7 Random Things:

When I’m reading I have to stop on a page that ends with a period. Sometimes this means reading for a lot longer than I meant to.

My feet are always cold but I hate wearing socks. Until this Christmas (when Steveo bought me slippers) I walked around complaining about icicle feet even though the solution was so close.

I’m a bit of a hypochondriac and can convince myself I have any disease. A few nights ago I got a bad headache before bed and woke Steveo up scared I had a brain aneurysm.

I avoid using public washrooms in all situations. This includes work, restaurants and campgrounds – awkward huh?

I can’t seem to keep the same hair colour for more than a couple months (it’s red now, not blue) and because of this my neighbours are not always entirely sure who I am.

I seem confident when you first meet me but, those who know me know how truly neurotic and self conscious I really am… lucky them.

When I start a book I always read it all the way to the end, even if I don’t like it very much – I just don’t like to feel like a quitter I guess. The only exception to this rule is The Memory Keeper’s Daughter which I couldn’t finish because it was just way too awful. It’s also a habit I’m working to break as life is too short to read crappy books!

Blogs I Love:

The Book Whisperer – This is the blog that introduced me to the Weekly Book Challenge (although she did a daily challenge) and got me hooked on online book reviews.

Blatant Biblioholic – Another British book review blog – what can I say? I love them!

Adventures in Borkdom – This blog is written by an English teacher with a great taste in books. I have never regretted reading a book she’s recommended and have a bunch of her 2011 reads on my to read list for this year.

Blook Blog – A newer book blogger with a passion for reading and all things literature.

The Librarian Who Doesn’t Say “Shhh” – Where were librarians like this when I was in junior high? Miss Anderson rocks! She reads a ton of YA so she’s very knowledgeable about the books her kids will be reading, writes great reviews and even holds a book club for the young readers in her charge. I heart her.

Books and Boston – A book blog… are you sensing a theme here? But seriously, check out Michelle’s blog, she’s a great writer and I enjoy the tid bits of real life she posts every once in a while.

In My Good Books – Charlie was in a book rut, reading her favourite authors and books over and over again so she created this blog to push her out of her comfort zone and keep her accountable. So far it’s working, she writes great reviews!

The Waffler – Can’t make a decision? Me either, that’s where Molly at The Waffler comes in, she helps indecisive blog readers make all kinds of life decisions from home decor, to parenting to what kind of car to drive.

Broken Penguins - Another book blog but with a twist, while Farah writes some great and insightful reviews she also illustrates her posts with gorgeous pictures. Well worth checking out.

Reviews and Ramblings – Adam writes great reviews on all kinds of books but specializes in sci-fi and fantasy. I’ve got many recommendations from him and he’s yet to disappoint!

101 Books – A blog about an adventurous reader making his way through Time Magazine’s list of the 100 best books of all time. I especially enjoyed his recent post on “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margret”.

Quigley’s Cabinet – Interested in the weird things nature, science, history and anthropology have to offer? Me too! So is Chris Quigley and she writes a fantastic blog all about them.

The Word Made Flesh – I’m highly addicted to this site about literary tattoos; I’ve even blogged about it before. I’m still trying to figure out my perfect permanent ode to books but am overwhelmed by all the options!

Travel Destination Bucket List – Time’s are tough on the Shhh Mommy’s Blogging farm so it’s doubtful we’ll be going on a trip anytime soon, this means I need some vicarious travel and Anita is wonderful at not only sharing her experiences but her beautiful photographs too.

Happy Little Bento – I have a weird obsession with bento boxes and love the ones Sherimiya makes. She’s super creative and makes bentos I get strangely jealous of!

So there you have it, some weird things about me and some blogs I love and hope you check out.
