April is over (come on Spring!) and it was a weird reading month. I didn’t read any of the predicted books (although I’m 1/2 way through Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) but thanks to Dewey’s Readathon I still managed to finish four books. I also took a two week blogging and reading break after the readathon so I’m feeling a bit mixed up. Here’s how the month went:
Books Read

We Have Always Lived in the Castle – Shirley Jackson
(review to come)
I read this at the very beginning of April and I’m only a third of the way through the review. Hopefully it will be ready for next Monday’s review post. Here’s a hint though… I liked it! I can’t believe how far behind I am review wise, it’s actually feeling a bit oppressive at the moment.
Bonus Books
I will likely do full reviews of these when I finally catch up but here are some first thoughts:

An Abundance of Katherines – John Green
My first John Green novel and April’s book club selection! I was so excited to read this during the readathon that I may have inflated my expectations. It was definitely well written and the kids were just as witty as I was led to believe but it dragged a bit in the middle. I will likely check out more of his books as I’ve heard The Fault in Our Stars is phenomenal.

Another first! I was a bit apprehensive because of Palahniuk’s reputation as a chaotic writer and was expecting barely understandable ranting. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised when instead I got an interesting concept with wonderful (if horrifying) imagery. I will probably read another of his books so if anyone has a suggestion that’d be great.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? – Mindy Kaling
If this book tells the truth Mindy is one of the funniest, most relatable actors out there. I feel like in so many regards we are the same person (we’d definitely be best friends if we had the chance to hang out). She actually made me laugh out loud which is no easy feat. It’ll definitely be super hard to choose just one feature quote for my upcoming review.
Best Book of the Month
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me – Mindy Kaling
Next Up
In May I’ll be trying to get a bit a head of the game and will be reading 6 books:
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Douglas Adams (already 50% done)
A Monster Calls – Patrick Ness
The Watch That Ends the Night – Allan Wolf
What did you read this month?
I would recommend Diary by Chuck Palahniuk. It’s odd and twisted and funny and scary all at once.
I am afraid my reading is predominantly based around travel. I just finished Sailing Promise: Around the world on a catamaran. Great read – as much about human nature and relationships as about the adventure of sailing around the world!
